Wayuu Crochet Tradition
At the heart of many Maresa collections is the remarkable craftsmanship of the Wayuu people, an Indigenous community from the La Guajira Peninsula in northern Colombia. Some of our collections are created using an entirely different artisan technique that transforms textiles into richly textured works of art.
Each design begins as an illustrated pattern carefully transferred onto a stretched fabric mounted on a working frame. Guided by this outline, skilled artisans build the design entirely by hand, applying coloured yarn section by section using specialised artisan tools.
Every curve, shape and colour transition is created individually, producing remarkable depth, texture and precision that cannot be replicated through automated manufacturing.
Once complete, these handcrafted textile panels become the foundation of our Clutches, Mini Pouches and selected Mini Crossbody Bags. Each panel is then carefully constructed into a finished accessory, combining traditional Colombian craftsmanship with elegant contemporary design.
